SEAC is a collective of practitioners established as a catalyst for building an inclusive solidarity economy in the most pauperized and excluded areas of Lebanon and countering dominant exclusionary socio-economic development models.

 

SEAC envisions the fulfillment of economic, social, and cultural rights of all segments and components of society in Lebanon through innovative bottom-up approaches to socio-economic empowerment.

Economic, social, and cultural transformations generated by brutal economic policies and forced integration into a demanding local and global market create multi-layered challenges that require multi-layered analysis and radical solutions.

Economic stability leads to empowerment, autonomy, and social security, which contributes to social cohesion and peace. It entails building safety nets and resilient networks to mitigate against economic, social, and cultural threats, as well as the security risks menacing refugees, migrants, and other marginalized groups, brought about by an atmosphere of state-sponsored xenophobia.

The pivotal concepts of SEAC’s values sphere are those emanating from social justice. Equal opportunity, which is the basis of democracy, is the key to end inequity, and the main ingredient to building a cooperative, participatory, and inclusive community. SEAC seeks to facilitate the amalgamation of local knowledge with scientific, fact-based, and scholarly research, methodologies, and tools.

SEAC believes in the International Declaration of Human Rights and works on promoting its values, particularly those embodied in the International Covenant on Economic, Social, and Cultural Rights and consequent charters engendering the right to development, access to livelihood resources, participatory freedoms, and welfare. It rejects and actively addresses all forms of discrimination based on race, ethnicity, national origin, legal status, sexuality, gender expression, creed, age, or ability. It is also deeply committed to environmental conservation, ecological balance, and the planet’s welfare.

SEAC aims to mobilize local expertise and resources, provide tools for networking with the community and the market, improve the capacity of producers and service providers, and empower economically marginalized segments, particularly refugees, migrant workers, and pauperized Lebanese segments.

SEAC works with existing supply chains to incorporate new markets and possibilities, expand the reach of entrepreneurs, and link them with the local sphere of expertise, through weaving a stable and sustainable local solidarity economy, based on innovative and progressive solutions.

SEAC’s strategy focuses on three key and interlinked components:

• Encouraging local entrepreneurial initiatives aimed at improving the livelihood of beneficiary communities.
• Encouraging a solidarity economy through galvanizing local initiatives to establish inclusive cooperative structures.
• Contributing to social cohesion through supporting the creation of inclusive multipurpose community centers catering to the social needs of the community, especially doubly marginalized groups like women and youth.
